Achievements in 2018

Matthew : March 13, 2019 9:49 pm : News

In 2018 we held 26 concerts, raising £4637! (£1700 of this was at Christmas).

We gave away:

£1000 to Guide Dogs

£200 to Phab Club

£1000 to Blood Bikes

£500 to Little Lifts (gift boxes for breast cancer patients)

£500 to rucksacks for asylum seekers

£1000 to East Anglia Children’s Hospices

We’d like to find new venues to sing – especially when we can go in the evening. Retirement homes, Probus meetings, or fund-raising concerts for local charities, weddings – even funerals!!

I’d love to hear from trustees of small local charities who need support.

Accompanist Required

Matthew : March 13, 2019 9:33 pm : News

Our current accompanist has indicated she wishes to retire due to poor health so we are looking for someone to join us. He or she will be made very welcome! Our practice nights and most of our musical events are on Thursday evenings, and ideally the person should be able to sightread well and share our passion of getting everyone to make music to the best of their ability. We have other musicians (flautist and violinist and occasional drummer when he’s home from university!) so it is a team effort. Above all, we aim to enjoy music making, work hard but have a lot of fun. Is there someone out there?

We currently have 41 members. We would welcome singers for first sopranos and second sopranos/altos, who are fairly experienced and can read music fairly well.

This month we had another enjoyable evening with Wymondham Dementia Support Group where we celebrated spring with an evening of music from Abba to My Fair Lady, and of course of favourite John Rutter.

Scott gave us a fantastic euphonium solo

This evening also helped raised much needed funds for a well deserving local charity.

January 2017 News

Matthew : February 25, 2017 9:21 pm : News

The New year is here, and we are pleased to have been able to use the money we have raised from our singing to give to Ormiston Families Unite Program.

“The Unite Programme is about supporting children and their families who have been affected by offending behaviour to stay together.

This support may be through the services we offer to those visiting relatives in prison, through our Transforming Rehabilitation service for short-sentence prisoners and their families or through our Breaking Barriers service for children affected by imprisonment.

As well as helping children and young people cope with the trauma of offending behaviour or imprisonment in the family, there is significant evidence that offenders who are able to maintain positive family ties are less likely to re-offend and that the cycle of offending within families is more likely to be broken.”
